Pipe perp tased by cops, charged
A Chatham man faces charges after Chatham-Kent police say he threatened officers with a steel pipe Thursday.
The incident took place on Queen Street. Police were called after someone heard screams coming from an apartment about 4 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they met a man who was highly intoxicated and behaving aggressively, police say.
The man grabbed a steel pipe and held it in a threatening manner towards the officers, police say, and despite repeated requests to drop the pipe, the man refused to comply. The officers used a conducted energy weapon to subdue the man.
A 55-year-old Chatham man was charged with assaulting a peace officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was transported to police headquarters and lodged until he was sober.

At 1:27 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to a dispute on Sudbury Drive in Chatham.
Officers learned the victim returned home from doing errands when a man began an argument with her. During the argument, the man called the woman names and shoved her twice before she contacted a friend, police say.
A 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
