Collision leads to impaired charge

A Chatham-Kent man has to answer to charges of impaired driving after a single-vehicle crash shortly after midnight Thursday.

Chatham-Kent police say the accident took place on Talbot Trail between Fargo Road and Talbot Street in the former Harwich Township.

Police arrived, located the driver and believed he was impaired by alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 33-year-old man from the former Raleigh Township is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.

Assault and more

So, not only do police say a man was not supposed to associate with a specific woman, but they allege he assaulted her as well.

On Wednesday, police received an assault complaint from a third party.

The officer learned a man had assaulted a woman, which resulted in a minor physical injury, witnessed by the third party. The officer also discovered that the man and the woman were bound by conditions not to associate.

On Thursday, about 1:15 a.m., an officer spotted the man at an address on Park Street in Chatham.

A 36-year-old Ridgetown man was charged with failing to comply with a release order, facilitating a breach, and assault. He was held pending a bail hearing.
