A plan to develop a new subdivision, that will likely include a high-rise apartment building, is inching ahead.
At its recent planning meeting, Chatham-Kent council approved a number of zoning bylaw changes that would allow Clarke and Nelson Developments take the next steps to implement the new housing build.
The proposed development is located on the south side of Marlborough Street North, with additional frontage on Nazarene Road. The area is bordered by agricultural land to the south and west, industrial development to the north and a residential neighbourhood to the east.
It will include both low- and high-density housing, opportunities for commercial spaces and parkland.
The development has already had a setback following council’s initial approval of the proposal in April 2022. The decision was appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the appeal was dismissed in January 2023.
According to Ryan Jacques, municipal director of planning, the plan is still in the conceptual stage, with revisions yet to be made, including the height of any apartment buildings.
Two deputations against the subdivision were made at the meeting, including one from the citizen who made the appeal last year.
