A Dresden man faces assault and mischief charges following a strange altercation Thursday.
At 3:33 p.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to St. George Street in Dresden for a mischief investigation.
Police learned the man was cutting straps from trees in Rotary Park without permission. After he was approached and told to stop, he ran after the victim with a box cutter, police say.
A 49-year-old Dresden man was arrested and charged with mischief, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Theft from vehicles
A Kent Bridge woman faces theft charges after someone was caught rifling through vehicles in Chatham on Thursday morning.
Chatham-Kent police were called about 10:30 a.m. to a location on Grand Avenue West for a report of suspicious activity.
Police arrived on the scene and learned a woman was entering vehicles and removing items. The woman was confronted by a victim, who retrieved her property, police say, and the woman left the area. She was located a short distance away by police.
A 36-year-old Kent Bridge woman was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
Two arrested for theft

On Friday morning, shortly before 3 a.m., police responded to Creekview Place in Chatham for suspicious activity.
Police learned two men were checking vehicles in the area.
Officers arrived in the area and quickly located the two men. Both were arrested and transported to police headquarters.
A 49-year-old Pain Court man and a 28-year-old Chatham man were charged with three counts of theft and three counts of possession of stolen property.
