Man soils jail cell at C-K cop shop
A Chatham man faces a variety of charges after his arrest Monday night and obvious displeasure over his accommodations at Chatham-Kent police headquarters.
Officers responded to a business on Park Avenue East in Chatham about 11:20 p.m. Monday night for a break-and-enter investigation. Police received information a man was observed attempting to get into the building. They also received a description of the man.
Police arrived on the scene and located the man. Through surveillance footage, the man was seen driving into the business’s parking lot and possessing drills, bolt cutters, wire strippers and a flashlight. The man could be seen using the tools to damage a vending machine and two locks, police say.
Officers also learned the man was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.
The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Once in custody, police say the man urinated and defecated on the floor and bench of a cell.
A 31-year-old Chatham man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, possessing break-in instruments and two counts of mischief.
Woman charged with theft
At 4:10 p.m. on Monday, police conducted a well-being check on the woman after receiving a call from a concerned citizen. The citizen advised the woman was in a parking lot on King Street East.
Police arrived and located the woman. Officers confirmed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft and possessing stolen property and was arrested.

Missed court date? More charges
A Chatham man earned another day in court after police say he skipped out on one back in March.
Back on March 2, a warrant was issued for a man’s arrest when he failed to attend a court date.
The man had been initially charged in assault and bail violation investigations.
On Monday morning, the 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man turned himself in to the police. He was released with a future court date.
