The Chatham-Kent Food Policy Council (CKFPC) is in the hunt for volunteers from staff of community organizations, as well as community members who have an interest in any sector of Chatham-Kent’s food system.
The CKFPC, which is an official group under the Board of Health for the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, is comprised of community members, and other key partners from various sectors that represent the food system.
The mission of the CKFPC is to lead in the development of relevant policies and to advocate for our local food system.
“A Food Policy Council provides a space for interested folks to gather around, so to speak,” Sharmini Balakrishnan, CK Public Health nutritionist, said in a release. “Rather than a number of different advocates working in silos on separate issues around the food system, a Food Policy Council creates the opportunity for co-ordination and integration, and is much more efficient.”
Members must be at least 18 years of age or older and must live, work or provide service in Chatham-Kent.
The CKFPC is recruiting representatives from the health-care sector, older adults, emergency food providers, agriculture, youth and immigration, education, grocers/food processing, community gardens and horticultural societies and the general public.
Those interested in applying are asked to complete the Food Policy Council Application form by April 28. Submission instructions are at the bottom of the application form.
