3 people face 29 charges after police raid

A trio of Walpole Island residents faces a slew of charges following a recent large-scale police raid on the First Nation.

Members of the Lambton County OPP Community Street Crimes Unit, along with members from other OPP CSCU teams, Lambton County OPP Crime Unit, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Canine Unit executed a search warrant on Austin Road on Walpole Island March 31. Three individuals were taken into custody and multiple firearms were located in the residence.

A 41-year-old man is charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (five counts);
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (five counts);
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts);
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance (two counts);
  • Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5000 and;
  • Failure to comply with undertaking.

A 34-year old man is charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (five counts);
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (five counts) and;
  • Careless storage of ammunition.

A 25-year-old woman faces charges of failing to comply with release order (two counts).
