Trailer stolen, recovered

Chatham-Kent police responded to suspicious activity at an address on O’Neil Line in Howard Township on Sunday afternoon.

While en route, police learned the complainant observed a vehicle at a home they knew should not be there. When the complainant approached the vehicle, it fled the area. A description of the vehicle was provided to the police.

 Police arrived in the area, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop. Two men occupied the vehicle.  

Through investigation, police recovered a stolen car trailer from one man’s address in Wallaceburg that was reported stolen from O’Neill Line on March 27.

A 37-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with possessing stolen property. 

The second man was released unconditionally. 

Warrant arrest 

At 3:55 p.m. Sunday, Chatham-Kent police responded to a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a disturbance.

Through investigation, police learned a woman was upset and causing a disturbance when the business would not accept gift cards from another store as payment. 

Police confirmed the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. 

A 47-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters. She was held pending a bail hearing. 

Stolen vehicle                                                                                    Sometime early Saturday morning, between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., someone stole a black 2016 Kia Rio parked near Gray Street in Chatham.

Chatham B&E

Sometime between 5 p.m. Friday night and 7 a.m. Saturday morning, someone forced their way into a garage on Raleigh Street in Chatham causing approximately $1,000 in damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a John Deer riding lawn mower and other miscellaneous property.

Drunk in public

At 12:49 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a motel on Grand Avenue East in Chatham for a well-being check.

Police arrived and found the man intoxicated and unable to care for himself.  

A 19-year-old Sombra man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held until sober. 

At 1:47 p.m., police responded to a report a man was observed attempting to enter a basement of a home on Taylor Avenue in Chatham.

Upon arrival, police located the man running on Grand Avenue East. The man was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters. 

A 19-year-old Walpole Island man was held until he was sober.
