Door kicked in, woman assaulted, man charged
A Tara, Ont. man faces charges after someone kicked open a women’s door Tuesday in Harwich Township.
Chatham-Kent police got the call shortly after 5 p.m. to a Chatham Street address.
Officers learned a man and woman were engaged in a verbal argument, resulting in the man leaving the residence.
The man returned sometime later and kicked in the door to the woman’s home, causing damage to the doorframe, police said. Once inside, the man continued to cause damage to the doors and kitchen appliances.
The argument escalated when the man threw the woman to the ground and attacked her with scissors, police say. The man left the residence and damaged the woman’s car as he left the property.
Police also learned the man was released by the court on June 17, 2022, with a condition to reside at an address in Tara, Ontario and to remain inside that residence 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for precise exceptions.
At 5:13 p.m., police located the man a short distance away from the woman’s residence and arrested him.
A 34-year-old Tara man is charged with breaking and entering, assault, mischief, failing to comply with a release order and two counts of assault with a weapon. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Afternoon intoxication
At 2:51 p.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance on George Street in Ridgetown.
Upon arrival, police located an intoxicated woman who could not care for herself. The woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
A 43-year-old Ridgetown woman was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for being intoxicated in a public place and held until she was sober.
No peace
Early Wednesday morning, about 4:30 a.m., police responded to St. Clair Street in Chatham for a suspicious person.
Police arrived and located a man knocking on the windows of a business and causing a disturbance. It was determined the man was unable to care for himself.
A 36-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested for breaching the peace and transported to police headquarters. The man was held in custody until he could care for himself.
Traffic blitz
On Wednesday, members of the Community Patrol Branch and the Traffic Unit conducted traffic enforcement throughout the municipality, specifically on McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham and Longwoods Road in Chatham Township.
A total of 21 Provincial Offenses Notices and two Part III Summons were issued. One person was also charged with stunt driving.
