The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County Detachment has closed a large portion of Highway 401.
On Friday afternoon, the OPP closed the eastbound and westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 from Tilbury to Colonel Talbot Road after responding to numerous collisions.
At this time, the full extent of the number of vehicles involved is unconfirmed.
One individual has been transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Of the other individuals involved, only minor injuries have been reported.
The highway will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.
Portions of Highway 40, and Communictions Road were also closed at times on Friday, or backed up due to accidents.
The OPP is urging members of the public to avoid travelling on the roadways unless necessary.
