Editor: Christmas is a special time of year, and I am grateful for many things including the special musical events across Chatham-Kent.

On a recent Saturday night, along with hundreds of other C-K residents, I attended the Saturdays at 7 concert at the Capitol Theatre. A big thank you to the local musicians for bringing us the joy of music.

The 30 members of the CK Chamber Orchestra, the 50 plus members of St. Andrews Concert choir and 30 youth in the Bel Canto Choir School performed wonderful music under the direction of Devon Hansen.

Hansen and Christine Baribeau, the co-directors of this choir, deserve much appreciation for mentoring and for encouraging the next generation of singers.

On Sunday afternoon of the same weekend, the Capitol Theatre was again filled to enjoy the performance by Wallaceburg’s professional sounding Brass Factory Big Band.

This was followed by the fifty-five members of the Wallaceburg Concert Band under the inspired direction of Dave Babbitt.

The performance included some Christmas golden oldies as well as some challenging new works.

As we left the Capitol energized after each of the events everyone was in great spirits sharing how much they appreciated the work of the musicians.
