A Wallaceburg woman has to answer to assault and drug possession charges following a Sunday morning clash.

Chatham-Kent police responded to a call at 7:12 a.m. to Terry Street in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned there had been an altercation between two women, where one allegedly spat on the other. The suspect was located a short time later and arrested. 

Upon a search, incident to arrest, suspected methamphetamine was found on the woman. 

A 52-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Crash leads to impaired charge

A Monday morning crash where a vehicle hit a tree on Merritt Avenue has led to an impaired charge.

Police say they responded to a report of an accident shortly after 4 a.m. Monday.

They arrived on scene to see a vehicle had jumped the curb and hit a tree after the driver apparently failed to make the turn off Riverview Drive onto Merritt.

Through investigation, officers believed the woman was driving her car while under the influence of alcohol, and she was arrested. The woman was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

A 37-year-old Chatham woman is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. 

Drunk in public

Lazing on a Sunday afternoon is one thing, but a Chatham man may have taken things a bit too far yesterday.

Police responded to a disturbance about 2:45 p.m. on Sheldon Avenue in Chatham.

Officers arrived and found a man in the parking lot. Police say he appeared to be intoxicated and unable to care for himself.

A 22-year-old Chatham man was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and held until he was sober.
