After a torrid pace over the past week or so, Chatham-Kent’s active case counts of COVID-19 are on the decline. But the numbers are deceiving.
Our active case count dropped by 11 on Friday morning, according to CK Public Health, down to 132. A few short days ago, that number had topped 150.
However, we are still seeing large numbers of new cases each day. This morning’s tally was 21 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
But, with the deluge of new cases in the recent past, 32 cases were deemed resolved Friday.
At the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, there are 10 COVID-19 patients in hospital, one of whom is not from the municipality.
Three patients are in the ICU with the virus and all are on ventilators.
Across Ontario, the provincial government reported a staggering 3,124 new cases Friday morning, up from about 2,400 a day earlier.
Of the 3,124 new cases, 799 were in unvaccinated people, 96 were partially vaccinated and 2,120 were fully vaccinated, with 130 people with unknown vaccination status.
As well, 759 cases were reported in Toronto, 294 in Ottawa, 215 in York Region, 209 in Peel Region, and 205 in the Kingston area.
