A routine weekend traffic stop led to impaired, drug and gun charges for Chatham-Kent OPP.
An OPP officer pulled a vehicle over on Communication Road shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday morning for speeding. But when the officer was speaking to the driver, police say it became apparent the driver had been drinking.
Police administered a roadside screening and the driver was arrested. They were transported to the OPP detachment where they provided two samples over the legal limit.
During the course of the investigation, a loaded handgun and illicit drugs were located. As a result, three people are facing charges.
A 30-year-old Leamington man is charged with impaired driving; possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm; being an occupant in a vehicle knowing there was a firearm; knowing there was unauthorized possession of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; carrying a concealed weapon; two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine and opioids).
A 22-year-old Leamington woman is charged with possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm; being an occupant in a vehicle knowing there was a firearm; knowing there was unauthorized possession of a firearm; carrying a concealed weapon; careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and breach of recognizance.
