More reopening charges laid
Chatham-Kent police dropped three tickets off in relation to three Mennonite churches in the municipality hosting gatherings on the weekend.
Yesterday morning, police responded to the report of a gathering at the Old Colony Mennonite Church on Wheatley Road in Wheatley.
When the officer arrived, approximately 160 cars were observed in the parking lot with more than 100 people inside the church.
A 50-year-old Dover Township man was charged with failing to comply with a continued 7.0.2 order as per Ontario Regulation 364/20, of the Reopening Ontario Act, 2020.
Also on Sunday, police responded to the report of a gathering at the Old Colony Mennonite Church on Grove Mills Line in Dresden.
Approximately 60 people were observed to be in attendance.
A 48-year-old Chatham Township man was charged with failing to comply with the reopening act.
Furthermore, also on Sunday morning, police responded to the report of a gathering at the Old Colony Mennonite Church on Cundle Line in Charing Cross.
When the officer arrived, approximately 38 cars were observed in the parking lot with over 90 people inside the church.
A 37-year-old Merlin man was charged with failing to comply with the reopening act.
Man spits on a cop
Early Saturday morning, police received a call of a male party with a large air compressor on Grand Avenue, in Chatham.
Police located the male and discovered the air compressor was taken from a local business nearby.
The male was then arrested and taken to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters.
While being booked into custody, police say the male spat on an officer.
A 25 year-old Chatham man was charged with break, enter and theft; possession of stolen property over $5,000; and assaulting a peace officer.
Resisting arrest
Around 4 a.m. this morning, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that the man had damaged his parent’s home.
Offices located the man hiding in a bush behind the residence. As officers placed the man under arrest, police say he resisted. The man was taken into custody and upon being searched, was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.
A 23-year-old Chatham man has been charged with resist arrest, drug possession and two counts of mischief. He remains in police custody this morning,
Domestic assault
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a domestic related incident at a residence in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that a woman had been assaulted by her ex-husband and that this was not the first incident of domestic violence during their relationship.
A 37-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, mischief, forcible confinement, uttering threats and three counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
