Another reopening charge

The Chatham-Kent Police Service issued another charge in connection with an unlawful gathering at a local church.

On Monday, a member of the Old Colony Mennonite Church on Grove Mills Line in Dresden was charged in connection with a gathering on May 16 where approximately 42 vehicles were observed in the parking lot with about 50-60 people inside the church.

A 58-year-old Dresden man was charged with failing to comply with a continued 7.0.2 order as per Ontario Regulation 364/20, of the Reopening Ontario Act, 2020. He will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on June 30, 2021.

Aggravated assault

Last night, a man wanted for mischief under $5,000 and assault causing bodily harm attended police headquarters and turned himself in.

The man was arrested and additionally charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement in connection with an incident where a woman was held against her will and assaulted while at a Chatham home earlier this month.

A 20-year-old Chatham man was released pending a future court date.

Domestic charges

This morning, shortly after 4 a.m. police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that the man assaulted his wife and threatened to damage their home.

A 34-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with uttering threats and two counts of assault. He remains in police custody this morning.

Compliance problem

Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol observed a man driving a van on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Police say the officer recognized the man as a suspended driver.

A traffic stop was initiated near West Street and the man was arrested.

A 35-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions by operating a motor vehicle and driving while under suspension.

Plate problems and more

Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Bruinsma Avenue.

A traffic stop was initiated and the officer learned that the man was suspended from driving for unpaid fines.

The license plates attached to the vehicle were also not authorized and expired in 2008.

A 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with driving while under suspension, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and failing to have insurance.

The license plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

B&E

Sometime between Saturday at 5 p.m. and Tuesday at 7 a.m., someone entered the property of Bluewater Pools on Riverview Drive by cutting their way through the fence.

Once inside the compound, the suspect(s) smashed a window to a truck and stole various tools.

The suspect(s) then forced their way into a locked trailer and stole various power tools.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000. Total value of the theft was estimated at $4,000.

Stolen ATV

Sometime between Monday at 8 p.m. and Tuesday at 4 p.m., someone stole a 2015 Yamaha ATV from a property on Lambton Line near Bothwell.

The ATV was last seen with Ontario license plate 9DH09.
