The Base Line Bridge over the Sydenham River in the Community of Wallaceburg will be closed until early May to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
A full closure is required to prepare the bridge for specialized asphalt paving and to complete some remaining items as part of the rehabilitation, municipal officials said.
Small boats will have access during construction. Large boats requiring the bridge to be opened will not have access until May 15.
Once the asphalt paving has been completed, the bridge will be closed daily for approximately 10 working days, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in order to complete balancing and commissioning of the structure prior to the bridge being opened to vehicles and pedestrians on May 14.
During balancing and commissioning activities, the bridge will be open to vehicles and pedestrians in the evenings and weekends. Small boats will have access at that time as well, with some delays expected.
Rain or cooler temperatures may delay certain construction activities and affect the re-opening date of the structure.
