Second home invasion suspect nabbed

Last night, Chatham-Kent police picked up a second suspect in connection with a Tuesday night home invasion in Chatham.

That night, police responded to the home invasion at an apartment in Chatham between men all known to each other.

As previously released, three men forced their way into the apartment where a physical altercation involving a knife began with the homeowner.

The victim, a 50-year-old Chatham man sustained injuries that required medical attention.

Police soon had one suspect in custody.

Last night, police arrested a second man. A 22-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A warrant has been issued for the third man.

Family feud

Yesterday morning, police responded to a family dispute at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal altercation between a father and his adult son escalated into a physical altercation.

A 53-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was released pending a future court date.

Assault in Wallaceburg

Last night, police responded to a disturbance between two men known to each other at a residence on Elgin Street in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in a laptop being damaged.

A 49-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault and mischief.

Woman faces stunt driving charges

Yesterday afternoon, a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Merlin Road near Queens Line. The officer recorded the woman driving 146 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

A 59-year-old Dresden woman was charged with stunt driving. Her license has been suspended for seven days and her vehicle has been impounded for seven days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.

Impaired charges

Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of a vehicle driving recklessly in Chatham, as the driver almost struck a school bus on Queen Street.

An officer on general patrol located the vehicle in an alleyway on Lorne Avenue and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of a drug. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted and evaluation. As a result, the DRE officer believed the man was impaired by a drug.

A 30-year-old Chatham man is charged with impaired driving.

Last night, police responded to the report of a man causing a disturbance in the driveway of a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police suspected the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol. A roadside breath test was administered and the man failed. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

A 73-year-old Ridgetown man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Fender benders

Yesterday morning, police responded to a collision on Murray Street in Wallaceburg where the driver hit a parked a car and left the scene.

Through investigation, police identified the driver and a 25-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with failing to report an accident.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000.

Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Park Avenue East in Chatham.

Minor injuries were reported.

Total damage was estimated at $10,000.

A 34-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making a turn not in safety.
