Disturbance leads to arrest

Last night, just before midnight, Chatham-Kent police responded to a dispute between a mother and her teenage son while at a gas station in Chatham.

The youth fled on foot but was located by officers a short distance away.

A 15-year-old youth was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and transported to police headquarters. He will be released this morning when sober.

Suspended license

Yesterday afternoon, an officer in Wallaceburg observed a man, known to be suspended for medical reasons and unpaid fines, driving a family member’s vehicle on Duke Street in Wallaceburg.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and the man was taken into custody.

A 35-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with two counts of driving while under suspension.

Threat charges laid

Last night, police responded to a neighbour dispute in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that the man threatened his girlfriend’s neighbour.

A 26-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with uttering threats.

Tools stolen

Sometime between Tuesday at 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 12 p.m. someone forced their way into a shed and two storage containers at a business on Cathcart Street in Blenheim. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole various DeWalt, Mastercraft and Maximum power tools.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $5,000.

On Tuesday night, someone entered a storage room at an apartment building on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg through an unlocked window. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole various tools, valued at $300.

1,625 RIDE stops, 0 impaired charges

Yesterday, officers conducted RIDE spot checks across Chatham-Kent in an effort to keep our roads safe on St. Patrick’s Day in the middle of the pandemic when traffic into restaurants is severely curtailed.

A total of 1,625 vehicles were stopped and checked.

Seventeen roadside breath tests and one (1) standard field sobriety test were administered.

No one was charged with impaired driving.

Sixteen motorists were charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences.
