B&E suspect’s footprints tracked in the snow

After threatening a homeowner with a knife and then hitting him with a 2×4 before fleeing, Chatham-Kent police said a suspect didn’t seem to realize how easy it would be for officers to just follow his footprints in the snow.

Shortly after 4 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a break and enter in progress on John Park Line.

The homeowner was awoken by an alarm to his detached garage. As the homeowner went outside to further investigate, he was confronted by the man, who was in possession of a knife. The man threatened the homeowner and hit him with a 2×4 before fleeing the area on foot, police said.

Officers followed the man’s footprints in the snow and located the man shortly after 6 a.m. on Fraser Road.

As the man was taken into custody, he resisted arrest and failed to identify himself.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a flick knife.

Through investigation, police learned the man’s true identity and discovered that he had also entered a barn on McGregor Line.

A 41-year-old Thamesville area man is charged with two counts of break and enter, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, obstruct police, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and failing to comply with his release conditions. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded with a future court date.

Drug raid lead to one arrest

Last night, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Unit executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants in Chatham. The first warrant was executed at a residence while the second was executed on the homeowner’s vehicle.

Approximately $2,700 worth of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl was seized.

A 35-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.

Domestic assault

Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a domestic disturbance in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that the man assaulted his girlfriend and damaged her vehicle.

Officers located the man and he was arrested. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a knife, contrary to being on conditions not to possess any weapons.

A 41-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault, mischief and two counts of failing to comply with his Probation Order. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Obstruction charge

Shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Jane Road for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Through investigation, police learned that the man had falsely identified himself, by using his brother’s name, as he was currently suspended from driving.

A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with obstruct police, driving while under suspension and driving with a license plate not entirely visible.

Copper theft on Baldoon Road

Sometime between Monday at 5 p.m. and Tuesday at 7 a.m. someone entered a building under construction on Baldoon Road. Once inside, the suspect(s) caused about $3,000 damage and stole wire and copper piping.

Warrants

Last night, police located a woman at a local motel in Chatham who wanted for breach of probation, being in possession of a weapon and property related offences.

A 28-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and released pending a future court date.

Just before 1 a.m. this morning, police located a man on Bloomfield Road in Chatham who was wanted for breach of probation and assault causing bodily harm.

A 49-year-old Chatham man was arrested and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Around 4 a.m. this morning, police located a man in downtown Chatham who was wanted in connection with a shoplifting investigation and breach of probation.

A 24-year-old Chatham man was arrested and further charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
