Arrest, release arrest

Yesterday morning, Chatham-Kent police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Real Canadian Superstore.

Through investigation, police learned that a man stole electronics valued at approximately $200.

He fled on a bicycle, however officers located him a short distance away.

The man was charged with theft under $5000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.

A few hours later, police say the man returned to the Superstore, even though he was on conditions not to attend the store. The man stole a cooked package of ribs, ate them and left without paying, police say.

He then went to Wal-Mart, another store that he is currently bound not to attend. There, he stole a mountain bike and electronics valued at approximately $280, police say.

The man attempted to sell the items at a nearby pawnshop.

Officers located the man in this area and he was taken into custody.

A 29-year-old Chatham man was additionally charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth charged with assault

Yesterday, police responded to an assault complaint at a local high school in Chatham.

A 16-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and charged with assault. He was released to a parent pending a future court date.

Curfew? What curfew?

Last night, around midnight, an officer on general patrol observed the man riding his bicycle on St. Clair Street near Gregory Drive in Chatham.

The man was stopped and taken into custody as he was currently on conditions to obey a daily curfew of 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A 28-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

No insurance, wrong plates too

Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg observed a man driving a black Ford Mustang. A query of the license plates revealed that the plates were registered to a grey Chevrolet Malibu.

A traffic stop was initiated and the officer further learned that the man was driving with no insurance.

 

A 46-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with operating a motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance and using plates not authorized for the vehicle.

He will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Collisions 

Yesterday morning, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Selton Line near Victoria Road.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $18,000.

The driver at fault was charged with following too closely.

Last night, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Keil Drive near Heritage Road in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $8,000.

A 24-year-old Muirkirk man was charged with making a turn not in safety.
