Man injured in industrial accident

Shortly after 10 a.m. yesterday morning, Chatham-Kent police responded to an industrial accident on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

A 44-year-old man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted and has taken over the investigation.

Assault charges

Yesterday afternoon, an 18-year-old man attended police headquarters to report that he had just been assaulted on Wellington Street West in Chatham, by two men known to him.

Officers attended the area and located the two men responsible.

A 26-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 24-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with assault. He was released pending a future court date.

Collision leads to impaired charges

Last night around 5:30 p.m. an off-duty officer observed a three-vehicle collision on Park Avenue East near Queen Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, the officer believed that the man responsible for the collision was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The man was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for breath tests.

A 62-year-old Chatham man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released pending a future court date.

No one was injured as a result of the collision. Total damage was estimated at $65,000.

Mischief

Shortly after 8 p.m. last night, police responded to a mischief complaint on Queen Street in Chatham.

An observant citizen witnessed the man use a pipe to smash the window of a business. The citizen immediately called police who located the man a short distance away.

Total damage was estimated at $1,500.

A 37-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with mischief. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Stunt driving

Yesterday morning, an officer with the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Talbot Trail. The officer recorded the man driving 158 km/h in a posted 80-km/h zone.

A traffic stop was initiated and the 40-year-old Raleigh Township man was charged with stunt driving. His license has been suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program. His vehicle was also towed from the scene.
