A combined Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten class was closed Wednesday at Tecumseh elementary school in Chatham because of a positive case of COVID-19.

This is the first case in Chatham-Kent for Lambton-Kent District School Board (LKDSB).

As per the direction of CK Public Health, there are 24 students and six staff members who have been dismissed to quarantine, according to LKDSB.

All teachers have been asked to develop an online presence to facilitate student learning. Any students who are dismissed by Public Health to quarantine will have the opportunity to continue their learning remotely.

“The health and well-being of students and staff are the top priorities for the LKDSB and the LKDSB continues to follow the direction of Public Health,” the board stated.

Due to privacy concerns, no further information is released about individuals who contract the virus.

All close contacts have been contacted for testing.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Ursuline College Chatham (The Pines) also received notice about a positive case within the school community.

“School community” can be a staff and/or student with a positive case.

In total there are four cases in the school communities. The first two were reported Tuesday afternoon in St. Anne’s Catholic elementary school, Blenheim.

In addition, a service provider who works for both the St. Clair Catholic District School Board and LKDSB tested positive on Tuesday.

All schools remain open except for the affected classes.
