It is not as fast as what you see on TV crime dramas, but DNA evidence helped Chatham-Kent police identify a suspect in a January break in, and ultimately led to an arrest yesterday.

Someone forced their way into a Chatham Township residence on Countryview Line back in January, stealing a dryer and various tools, before taking a 2001 GMC Denali out of the driveway.

Investigators collected evidence on the scene and sent it off for forensic identification.

In February, police received information based on DNA found at the scene identifying a local woman as a suspect. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

Yesterday, police say officers located and arrested that suspect.

A 23-year-old Walpole Island resident is charged with break and enter.
