Sir: What a sad, sad story from Bridget Goldsmith (“Some things never change,” June 27 letter to the editor) who believed in an honest police force.
In the 1960s, I bought a house in England previously owned by a retired British police inspector. I was shocked to find light bulbs throughout the house stamped “government property,” and stories from a neighbour that I wouldn’t like to write about.
Later I wrote an article for a British magazine called “Appearances can be deceptive.”
