Attempted robbery in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police report a man was assaulted in Chatham earlier today – in public and in broad daylight.

According to police, a man on Wellington Street West was approached by another man around noon. The second man demanded money. When the other man refused, he was assaulted, police say.

The victim. 53, had to be taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspect, described as between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11, was seen wearing a dark blue winter coat with grey or brown fur around the hood, a blue sweater, blue winter toque and black shoes. He fled the area on foot and was last seen running south on Raleigh Street.
