Contact North Online Learning is helping ongoing students get access to a free online course to enhance Personal Support Worker training.
According to a release, the University of Toronto, through a partnership initiative with Closing the Gap Healthcare, is offering the PSW course online for free.
“With the objective of facilitating the creation of standardized terminology and best practices, this course is designed to enhance your skillset and previously obtained training,” the release stated.
The online course consists of four modules meant to enhance the knowledge and skills of a PSW and allows students to get university training and support without leaving his or her own community.
More than four million Ontarians in 600 small, remote, rural, Indigenous and Francophone communities across the province can participate in online and distance programs and courses from Ontario’s 24 public colleges, 22 public universities, nine Indigenous institutes, 76 district school boards, 200 literacy and basic skills training providers, and 50 skills development training providers without having to leave their community, by accessing the services available from Contact North through its local online learning centre in Wallaceburg.
Staff at Contact North provide students and prospective students with information on online and distance programs and courses and assistance with registering in the program or course. Students can also participate in their classes by using the web conferencing, videoconferencing and audioconferencing platforms, and full technical support and assistance are available from staff in the centre.
Students have free use of computers with high-speed Internet to connect to their online courses and complete their course work. They also have a quiet place to complete their course work, link with other students in informal support groups and write supervised exams, all at no cost.
For more information on this course, and other course offered at Contact North, call Online Learning Recruitment Officer Laura Ellis at 1-855-353-5949 or e-mail wallaceburg@contactnorth.ca. The Contact North office is in the Goodwill Donation Centre at 1416 Dufferin Ave. in Wallaceburg.
Is this course for ppl already having their PSW certificate, and wanting to enhance? Or ppl that have no certificate at all?
Please clarify.
Enhanced certificate.
This is very concerning to me!!! I promote education, and seriously who doesn’t like FREE education?! But a course like this where they’re teaching personal care for vulnerable people? Don’t they know that a PSW needs more than just book smarts? Whose going to teach them what they’d normally learn in guided hands-on labs such as proper lifting techniques so they don’t injure their clients nor themselves, bathing and personal care (ensuring dignity and appropriate touch), etc. And what about student placement opportunities to learn hands-on in a supervised environment as part of their learning AND PASSING the course? I’m officially concerned for our society now!!! (As if I wasn’t concerned enough already!)
It’s a course to enhance PSW training.
I like to join Free PSW courses. Please send me full info for registration.
Thanks
