Chatham-Kent OPP are releasing few details this morning after a man almost drowned near Walpole Island.

Someone called in about the near drowning on Chenail Ecarte about 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, with Walpole Island First Nation Police, Chatham-Kent Police Service and C-K Fire and Emergency Services personnel responding.

An investigation determined a group of friends were out boating around midnight when the victim, a 48-year-old man, fell in the water.

The victim was pulled from the water and brought to shore. Due to darkness, the group had to wait until morning to be rescued.

Emergency crews located the missing boaters at that time and the victim was transported to hospital and is in serious condition.

Police aren’t releasing any more details at this time.
