Put on your favourite retro running outfit for the fourth annual YMCA Family Fun Run/Walk.

The event takes place May 27 at the Y in Chatham.

Rob Clarke, spokesperson for the YMCA, said the run is a Strong Kids event. The Strong Kids campaign at the Y is designed to help fund access for families in need to YMCA programs, classes and services.

This year’s event includes a 5K run/walk option, a 3K run/walk choice, and the ever-popular 1K family fun run.

“Our biggest event is the 1K family fun run for all the little gaffers. They have a great time coming out and running around,”Clarke said.

He said support for the annual event is gaining traction.

“It’s getting there. We moved the event to a later date because of the hospice run (which took place April 29),” he said. “They were close to our date and we didn’t want to compete with them.”

Instead, the Y’s run will take place on RetroFest weekend, hence the retro theme.

The move may also get the Y run away from some sour weather.

“Previously, we had some pretty bad weather too. We’re hoping the 27th is nice and warm and sunny,” he said.

Participation prices are $35 for adults, $25 for seniors, $20 for teens and $30 for team members for the 5K run. Adults taking part in the 3K pay $30.

As for the kids run, there is no charge.

Everyone taking part will receive a participant medal, andClarke said there would also be door prizes containing “Y swag.”

Registration can be done online at www.raceroster.com or in person at the Chatham-Kent YMCA.

On race day, participants can still sign up. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., with the main event starting at 9 a.m.

The kids run will follow at 10:30 a.m.
