Coinciding with the second anniversary of the opening of our community’s residential hospice, the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation will host the second annual Hike for Hospice fundraising walk on April 29 .The Hike takes place at Mud Creek Trail beside John McGregor Secondary School in Chatham. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 2 p.m.

Hike for Hospice is a unique annual nationwide initiative hosted by hospices and palliative care organizations in late April or early May. This event helps launch National Palliative Care Week, while building awareness and raising funds to ensure people living with a life-threatening illness and their loved ones receive support at no charge.

The hike is a chance to celebrate and honour loved ones in a special and meaningful way. It is also an opportunity to promote the work that all volunteers and professionals in the field perform daily.

“Thanks to our sponsors and Hike for Hospice volunteer committee, this year’s event will be the best yet. The funds raised at Hike for Hospice are vital to the ongoing operation of the Chatham-Kent Hospice ensuring people receive exceptional, compassionate end-of-life care, while helping their loved ones find peace and comfort at a difficult time,” Jodi Maroney, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, said in a media release.

The walk is a family-friendly and accessible event with strollers, walkers and wheelchairs welcome on this pet-friendly trail. With multiple trail lengths to choose from, people of all fitness levels can take part.
