Super Kids CK is launching the fourth phase of The Healthy Kids Community Challenge, Power Off and Play!
With all the new technology options and devices, limiting the time that kids spend looking at screens has never been harder. Encouraging active and fun alternatives is critical for their physical health and well-being.
The community will be working to encourage children and families to build a balanced day that is not filled with screen time. Research shows that too much screen time for children can negatively affect their early development, physical and psychological health. It can also interfere with important daily routines, making it difficult for children to stay healthy.
Here’s what CK families can do:
- Replace some recreational screen time with more physical activity, time with family and friends, and fun and educational activities.
- Power off before sleep and bring back family meals without screens.
Super Kids CK will:
- Educate professionals that work with children on the impacts of screen time and introduce them to tools aimed at helping families to make changes.
- Launch a Power Off and Playpassport, highlighting local programs and events in CK that families can participate in to dial down their screen time. Families could win a prize for participating.
- Bring three storybook trails to CK! Families can enjoy a walk and a kid-friendly story together this summer.
