Two shoplifters nabbed at Chatham drug store

Store security at Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair St. in Chatham were kept busy yesterday.

Yesterday around 5:30 p.m., a man was in the store and concealed a Bell and Howell Dash Cam valued at $50 and a Dr. Ho back massager valued at $120 in his backpack.  The man made no attempt to pay for the items and was caught by store security as he left the store.

Police were contacted and the man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.  The 37-year-old Chatham man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Then last night, just before 9:00 p.m. police responded to another shoplifting complaint at Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair St.  A woman concealed a computer tablet and an audio system in her bag while making no attempt to pay for the merchandise as she exited the store.  The woman was nabbed by store security outside in the parking lot.

The 31-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.  She was released pending a future court date of Dec. 9.

Police also learned that the woman was also currently wanted on an outstanding warrant from Sarnia and was held in custody until the arrival of Sarnia Police.
