Burglar found in Chatham basement

Homeowners got a rude awakening yesterday morning in Chatham.

Around 7:40 a.m., police were called to a break and enter in progress on Turquoise Court.  The homeowners realized someone was in their basement and called police.

Officers found the woman inside the home and she was arrested.  When searched, the woman was found to be in possession of stolen items from two previous break and enters earlier in the morning in Chatham.  The woman also provided the officer a false name in an attempt to evade arrest on an outstanding warrant for breach of probation.

The 23-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with three counts of break and enter, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and obstruct police.  She was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.
