Chatham-Kent police arrested two males after a break and enter and car theft in Chatham.
Sometime overnight on Friday, a 17-year-old youth broke into a residence on Tweedsmuir Ave. W. taking medication, cellphone and car keys. He then proceeded to steal a vehicle from the home. The youth picked up a friend and went to a business on St. Clair St. where they hit a vehicle and left the scene.
The stolen vehicle was later observed by a citizen on Charing Cross Rd. driving erratically. The citizen called police who intercepted the vehicle in Erieau and conducted a traffic stop.
As a result of the investigation, the youth faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, theft of motor vehicle, fail to remain at the scene of a collision, possession of a concealed weapon and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. He was held for a bail hearing.
His friend, a 19-year-old male, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and was released on a promise to appear with a future court date of October 20.
