A Chatham man is in police custody after assaulting a woman and her son.
Yesterday morning, a man began arguing with a 56-year-old woman at a home in Chatham. The man threw hot water from a kettle at the woman, threatened her with a baseball bat and assaulted her. She left the residence in an attempt to diffuse the situation. Later in the afternoon, the man assaulted the woman again and her 27-year-old son. The son was able to break free and call police for help.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m. the 34-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and three counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
