Police name boy killed in tragic accident

Chatham-Kent police have released the name of the young boy killed after being hit by a vehicle in a tragic accident Sunday evening on Smoke Line in Camden Township.

A 55-year-old Chatham man was driving his Ford F-150 pick-up truck westbound on Smoke Line when he struck the boy who had left the ditch and began running across the highway.  The youngster was playing with friends in the ditch near his home.

The boy sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, where life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

The boy has been identified as Martin Guenther, 4, of Smoke Line in Camden Township.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service offer their deepest condolences to Martin’s family and friends.

The collision remains under investigation by the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Jason Herder at 519-355-1092.
