Thieves kept Chatham-Kent police busy yesterday

Sometime Sunday night or Monday morning, someone entered an unlocked garage on Cornhill Street and stole a yellow 2008 Suzuki RMZ 250 dirt bike valued at $2,800.

Shoplifter nabbed

Then, last night around 6:45 p.m., a man was observed concealing two cell phones and other items in a baby stroller while at the Superstore.  The man left the store without paying for the merchandise.  Officers were given the man’s physical and vehicle description, and he was located and arrested.  The stolen items valued at approximately $487 were recovered.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.  He was released with conditions pending a future court date of April 20.

Break and enter

Sometime between Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and Monday at 1:00 p.m., someone forced their way into an apartment on Montgomery Drive.  Once inside, the thief stole jewelry, a 42” Samsung TV, white iPad 5 with pink case, Lenovo laptop, black Fuji Instamax camera, red Wii console and Sony DVD player.  Total value of the theft is estimated at $3000.
