It’s a busy day for Chatham-Kent OPP officers and tow truck drivers, as police say at least a half a dozen vehicles are in the ditch and median along our stretch of Highway 401.

And they expect that number to rise during the day.

The slip, slide and away began about 4:30 a.m. All vehicles are scattered along the highway between Bloomfield Road and Orford Road, police say.

Drivers are urged to proceed with caution, as emergency crews are on the highway rescuing stranded motorists. Snowplows are also out doing their job.

Police say the highway is covered with packed snow, and there are icy sections, so drive accordingly.
