At about 6:30 p.m. last night, a 17-year-old Chatham youth was riding a bicycle in the area of King Street and Third Street in Chatham. Two males, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old approached him and a consensual fight occurred between the bicycle rider and the 18-year-old.
They both knew each other.
During the fight, the bicycle rider gained an advantage, and the 16-year-old who had been watching came to the other’s aid. He kicked the bicycle rider in the face, which ended the fight.
The 18-year-old then stole the bicycle rider’s hat and phone that had fallen on the ground.
Police were contacted after the incident and later located the suspects.
A 16-year-old Blenheim youth and an 18-year-old Chatham man were arrested and charged with assault, theft, and possession of property obtained by crime. They were released with future courts dates.
