The Chatham Goodfellows 61st annual porchlight campaign was an overwhelming success last night with more than $40,000 in cash and in excess of 100 banana boxes full of toys and non-perishable food donated.
Hundreds of Goodfellows went door-to-door in Chatham and the former townships of Chatham, Dover and Harwich, Raleigh as well as partnering with the Merlin Legion to provide for those in the Merlin area who are in need this year.
The amount raised topped last year by nearly 10 per cent and ensures that Goodfellows will meet their mandate of “No Child Without a Christmas.”
The campaign will continue with toy packing at the former Sunnen Guspro building 280 Grand Avenue East on December 7, 8, 9 and 10 between 6 pm and 8 pm each evening.
