Yesterday afternoon, a man at Sobeys on Park Avenue was observed eating a banana in the produce area then drinking a small chocolate milk in the dairy section.
An employee approached the man and asked him to leave.
The man became irate and threw a container of Gain laundry detergent causing it to break open on the floor. As the man was being escorted out of the store, he spat at the employee.
Police were notified and the man was arrested. The 36-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5000, mischief under $5000 and assault.
The man was also on the Wanted List for two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Why is it when I need help finding something there are no staff around but this poor guy is eating his lunch they are right there to nab him . Just sayin.
Sad isn't it? Hunger forces people to do things, that they would not normally do.
I was at a local grocery store recently when I began coughing uncontrollably, I opened a mini OJ and drank half of it, but did put it on the conveyor belt and paid for it, explaining why it was open
Why didn't Sobeys offer him some real food instead of kicking him out ?
The arrest and charges cost taxpayers way more than a banana and milk! No fixed address. Sounds like poverty to me.
