One of three local residents facing hundreds of charges relating to a raid on an East Tilbury Twp. home received bail Thursday while two others won’t have their hearing until Monday.
Kim, Robert, 39, was released on $10,000 bail while John Robert, 43 and Michel Gagnon, 41, remain in custody following an Oct, 9 raid on a Morris Line home during which Chatham-Kent Police and Ontario SPCA officers seized 31 dogs, weapons and hundreds of items police say relate to dog fighting.
The animals have been removed and are being cared for by the Ontario SPCA.
Initially, the three were charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.
After spending parts of two days on the property the trio now faces additional charges including:
- 31 counts of Unlawfully Owning a Pit Bull Type Dog contrary to the Dog Owner’s Liability Act
- 30 counts of Cruelty to Animals – causing unnecessary pain, suffering, injury to an animal contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- 15 counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- 11 counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Four counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- One count of Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
