Chatham-Kent police endured a whacky day yesterday, finding people hiding in backyards, and others who forced their way into residences.
Just after 9 a.m. Thursday, police say a woman forced her way into a Grand Avenue East apartment. They say the person who lived there opened the door and the suspect barged in and assaulting the resident, while arguing over a pet cat.
Police say the woman stole the resident’s jacket, shoes and tanning lotion, valued at a combined $370, and fled.
The resident, 17, did not require medical attention.
Officers located the suspect about 3:30 p.m. on Grand Avenue West, and made the arrest. Police say officers found methamphetamine on the suspect as well.
A 35-year-old Chatham woman is charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, and drug possession.
Two hours after that break-in took place, police say a man kicked in the door of a Grand Avenue East apartment where a woman was cleaning.
The woman wasn’t hurt, and the man fled. Police found their suspect in the area and he was arrested.
Damage to the door is estimated at $300.
A 25-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling, and mischief.
And just before midnight, officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the backyard of a home in the Murray Street area in Chatham.
Police say the officers found the suspect and learned the man was bound by several release conditions, including a curfew.
A 37-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with trespassing by night, and also faces two counts of failing to comply.
