A 51-year-old Chatham man has a lot to answer to after someone was caught on camera dumping diesel fuel on a Grand Avenue property.
Police say on May 3, they received a complaint from a local business. They reviewed security video of the property and saw a man police say is known to them pouring the fuel all over the complainant’s property.
Officers went to the man’s listed residence – at least the one where he’s supposed to stay while he is under his current house arrest conditions – but he wasn’t there.
Officers saw the man on a bike in downtown Chatham on Tuesday and tried to stop him. He fled the area, and as other officers were called in to help capture him, he ditched the bike and fled on foot, police say.
Police quickly caught the man and made an arrest.
Additional investigation revealed someone had reported the bike he was riding as stolen in April, police say.
A 51-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of breaching recognizance, mischief, and possession of property obtained by crime.
