Chatham police credit an alert citizen with helping to catch a would-be thief.
Police say about 8:20 a.m. Monday, the citizen saw a man ride his bike past an Oxley Drive residence several times before entering the garage and trying to steal a Trek bicycle.
The witness confronted the man and told the homeowner to call the authorities, police say.
A 19-year-old Chatham man is charged with break and enter.
