Vote, and vote often. That’s the plea from organizers of the Chatham entry in the Kraft Hockeyville contest.

Voting begins about 11 p.m. Saturday night and continues until 11:59 p.m. Monday night. The website to visit to vote is www.khv2015.ca.

Chatham landed in the top 10 for the Hockeyville contest, with five entries coming from eastern Canada and five from the west. The top 10 was announced on Hockey Night in Canada March 14.

The top two vote-getting communities will face off for another online vote March 28-30. Up for grabs is $100,000 in upgrades for a local arena – in our case, Memorial Arena – and the chance to host an NHL preseason game.

The second-place community also gets $100,000 in arena improvements, while the other eight communities receive $25,000 each for upgrades.

“Our citizens have been promoting Chatham-Kent nation-wide,” Mayor Randy Hope said in a media release. “Chatham-Kent is a real contender for the Kraft Hockeyville first place title this year, thanks to their very strong community spirit. Congratulations go to everyone involved. I know I will be voting and encouraging my family and friends to do so as well.”

To help improve voting numbers, the municipality encourages people to visit their local libraries to vote online on Monday.

The branches in Chatham, Highgate, Merlin, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg will be open for voting.

Meanwhile, Chad “Superfan” Peterson, the driving force behind Chatham’s Kraft Hockeyville campaign, will be honoured for his efforts. The Chatham Maroons plan on recognizing him during their annual awards banquet.

“Chad has been the driving force behind the Chatham Kraft Hockeyville campaign.

He’s always at our Home games wearing his hard hat with the red light that flashes when the Maroons score,” Maroons president Bill Szekesy said in a media release. “We as an organization want to show our appreciation for what he has done by giving Chad a current, personalized Maroons jersey and a 2015-2016 season pass.”
