Here’s a simple checklist:
- Don’t shoplift;
- don’t shoplift drunk;
- don’t shoplift drunk and carry booze with you while doing it; and
- don’t shoplift drunk and carrying booze if you have an alcohol prohibition as part of your release conditions from a previous charge.
Yet that’s apparently what happened about 5 p.m. Monday night at Giant Tiger in Chatham.
Police say someone tried to steal Pop Tarts from the store. Officers tracked town the suspect near the store, detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and found a bottle in his possession. The man was previously released on a recognizance with an order to not buy, possess or consume alcohol.
Ooops.
A 41-year-old Chatham man is charged with theft of Pop Tarts and breach of recognizance in connection with the incident.
