A forceful homeowner not only thwarted a break-in, but he gave police an excellent description of the suspect.

As a result, a 40-year-old man of no fixed address is facing charges.

Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night, police say a man tried to force his way in the front door of an Elizabeth Street home, but the homeowner pushed the man out the door, and locked it behind him.

The homeowner then called police, providing them with a description of the suspect.

Only a few minutes later, an officer spotted the man walking on Elgin Street near Lorne Avenue. Police say the man approached, with both hands in his pockets, and the officer told him he was under arrest and wanted to see his hands. The man refused and began to pull away, throwing what is suspected to be a small vial of hash oil over the cruiser.

Police say the man eventually complied and was taken into custody.

A 40-year-old man is charged with break and enter, resisting arrest and drug possession.
