Chatham-Kent is able to boast it has the most affordable housing in southwestern Ontario.
Of course, it comes with a caveat.
“It’s a good news/bad news story,” Jamie Winkler, president of the Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors, said in a media release. “The good news is we offer all the same amenities as our neighbours – great climate, accessible transportation, incredible recreational opportunities – and we offer the most affordable housing. The bad news is our housing prices are a direct reflection of the local economy.”
The average price for a home in Chatham-Kent in 2014 was just over $152,000. London averaged more than $250,000; where Windsor was $187,000 and Sarnia $218,000, according to the C-K Association of Realtors.
The average price of homes rose 2.5% last year in Chatham-Kent.
Let's focus on the positives of this announcement. Many young entrepreneurs can create their own jobs working out of their homes.. Young families can locate here and still have funds needed to travel or carpool. Retirees can move to a better climate and still maintain their retirement nest eggs. We are a safe, caring community. We should do all we can to market these aspects of our community to attract more people of all ages here. Commerce and industry will follow. A growing community will attract them.
We love the house in Wallaceburg and with the gas price right now driving to work isn't to hard on the pocketbook.
