Police had to use a Taser to apprehend a suspect on Harvey Street in Chatham last night.
About 9:30 p.m., officers received a report of a man trying to break into vehicles on the street. They found a man crouched next to a car. Police say he was toting a bag full of tools and was trying to pry the car door open.
As officers went to make the arrest, police say he pulled away and assumed a fighting stance, fists clenched. He then continued to resist arrest, resorting to swinging and kicking.
At that point, one officer pulled out the Taser and pulled the trigger.
As they searched the man while making the arrest, police say the officers found a quantity of methamphetamine.
A 33-year-old Chatham man is charged with being intoxicated in a public place, resisting arrest and drug possession.
